A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
