A total of 12 ancient items have been officially given back to the Ethiopian nation following staying by a household from Germany for more than 100 years.

The treasures, first acquired in the 1920's by the German representative to Ethiopia Franz Weiss and his spouse his partner, were delivered on midweek to the Institute of Ethiopian Studies at the capital's university.

This collection included headpieces, protective shields and canvases, all considered as culturally important in the country.

"The treasures still represent a mark of the lasting and positive ties between the German nation and Ethiopia," said Germany's envoy, Germany's representative to Ethiopia.

Professor a professor, whose parent was delivered during the household's service in Ethiopia, handed over the artefacts at a gathering joined by the Minister of Tourism the tourism official.

He explained that the family's aim to return the artefacts was to "showcase their appeal with the audience and safeguard the heritage and past connected to my parent's origin."

The objects were either considered presents or purchases, as stated by the relatives.

"I want to thank Professor Weiss's household for actively showing their profound affection for the nation by meticulously maintaining these treasures and crucially securing their homecoming to their legitimate country," commented the minister of tourism.

She continued that the items would soon be available to the people for study and educational purposes, terming the move a landmark in protecting Ethiopia's historical legacy.

"Initiatives are ongoing to bring back historical objects that are located in the hands of collectors and organizations around the globe," the minister stated.

During colonial rule in Africa, thousands of cultural objects were looted.

This request by the continent's states for the return of stolen objects has been responded to by a degree of positive outcomes in lately - though several items are just on short-term display.

Back in the year 2022, Germany was the pioneering nation to repatriate a portion of the well-known historical items to Nigeria in a bid to deal with its "complex colonial history."
