Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
