More than 36,000 Sudanese people have escaped after fall of El Fasher to RSF, states UN agency
Over 36,000 people have evacuated from Sudan's Kordofan region eastern part of Darfur starting Saturday, as stated by the UN's migration organization.
The strategic central area separating the country's Darfur provinces and the capital region has in recent weeks become the recent fighting area in the two-year civil war between the Sudanese military forces and the militia group.
Significant Exodus Numbers
An calculated 36,825 people evacuated from five localities in North Kordofan region between 26 October and 31 October, per data from the International Organization for Migration.
The people, mainly traveling by foot, moved toward Tawila, a town western side of El Fasher that is currently sheltering in excess of 652,000 evacuated individuals.
Escalated Forces Deployment
Local inhabitants of North Kordofan on Monday reported a substantial rise in both RSF and army deployment across urban and rural areas throughout the state.
Both forces are competing for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan state capital and a critical supply and command hub that joins Darfur to Khartoum.
"Today, all our forces have gathered at the Bara front here," stated an RSF member in a recently shared video declaration.
Local Inhabitants Detail Protection Issues
A resident of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, described that the amount of RSF vehicles had grown significantly since the group's seizure of El Fasher.
"We stopped going to our farms, concerned about clashes," the individual explained.
Another inhabitant, who sought confidentiality for protection purposes, also indicated that "there has been a substantial growth in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the last fourteen days.
International Alarms and Requests
A senior UN official sounded warnings last week about "extensive crimes" and "race-driven revenge attacks" by RSF in Bara.
The official alerted to patterns comparable to patterns in Darfur, where RSF fighters have been accused of mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against specific ethnic communities.
The spiritual head on Sunday appealed for an immediate ceasefire and the creation of humanitarian corridors in Sudan, stating that attacks on civilians and obstacles to humanitarian aid "are producing unacceptable suffering."
Sudan's diplomatic representative to Egypt on Sunday accused RSF of carrying out war crimes in El Fasher and declared that the Sudanese government would not discuss with the armed faction.
The diplomat further called on the global community to classify the group as a terrorist organisation.
