New information has come to light regarding the tragic passing of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their Los Angeles home residence on Sunday.

The Alarm

According to a report citing a confidential source, a therapist scheduled for an appointment initially became concerned after failing to get inside the house. The therapist then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives close by.

Upon entering the residence, Romy found her father's body. Accounts indicate she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Her roommate who had gone with her then dialed 911. Following this, paramedics found Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Criminal Proceedings

The police have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder, as well as the alleged use of a deadly weapon, said to be a knife. He is now detained without bail.

Clarifications

The person close to the family challenged several initial details. They said that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick lived in a detached unit on the grounds, she did not identify him as a suspect at that juncture.

The source also disputed published suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "apprehensive" about Nick's conduct in the preceding period. The source claimed the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."

The statement includes accounts of alleged "unstable" conduct by Nick at a event held by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the discovery. Although the source stated they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they said that claims of a "heated argument" between the two were inaccurate.

Ongoing Inquiry Timeline

As stated by law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had yet to determine at that point whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Some media reports indicated the condition of their bodies pointed to they had been dead for a period of time.

Nick Reiner was arrested at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, some 15 miles from the family home. He was set to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, stated his client had not been medically cleared and would not be present until Wednesday or later.
