The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Brutally Tactical Tabletop Role-Playing Game
The intense universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A collaboration was established to create a TTRPG that explores the franchise’s post-pandemic landscape. The project was revealed, with a funding drive scheduled to begin in April of 2026.
"This endeavor aims to deliver the series' unique suspense, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the table, offering fans a new way to experience The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," reads an official release.
Launch products will include a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a GM screen, miniatures, and several deluxe editions.
Exploring The Division's Dystopian World
In this universe, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was released in New York City, plunging the nation into turmoil. As the pandemic worsens, civil order breaks down and violent factions emerge, turning the city into a warzone. To preserve order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. That’s where the agents enter the story.
Work on the RPG has been underway for approximately several years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The upcoming crowdfunding effort will serve as a preorder system to reach a wider audience, particularly in the United States. Production will start right after the campaign, with shipping projected for later in 2026.
A Streamlined Tactical System: The GRIS System
A preview at the game's rules reveals it employs 10-sided dice exclusively through its new GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and tactical style. Agents use skills or traits to assemble small dice pools, usually between one and five d10s.
- Rather than summing the total, participants select a single “resolution die” from the group.
- This die is then measured against a set challenge number.
- Achieving a perfect 10 triggers special effects, such as extra damage or enhanced aid.
Engagements Emphasize Tactical Placement and Awareness
Fights stress placement and environmental awareness, reflecting the source material. Elements like taking cover, elevation, or line of sight have a direct impact dice rolls. This system seems built to favor teamwork and clever tactics instead of simple statistics.
A Novel Health System
The way health is tracked adds a interesting narrative layer. Agents have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by decreasing the number of d10s.
- At zero health, an agent is downed, but is not knocked out.
- They can still crawl and perform restricted acts, emulating the "downed" state common to many shooter games.
- Any player knocked down must roll on a injury chart, potentially gaining persistent effects like shock or crippling injuries.
An Introductory Adventure
A publicly available Quickstart Guide is promised in the near future. It contains a pre-made starting adventure called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players lead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers faction, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the full range of offerings will be detailed closer to the Kickstarter start date.
