The Renowned Musician Encourages Backing to Propel Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a cultural melody to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project seeks to send support to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to support Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It occupies a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down in the wake of a major charity concert held in the autumn. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of musicians appearing on Lullaby includes a selection of well-known figures from the industry. All were part of the September show, which successfully generated a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a group of music creators. The song showcases a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The team running the project have stated that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These proceeds will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a representative said. “We aim for as much as possible. Obviously, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the area was noted for its profound destruction, with a vast majority of buildings described as destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a few million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The song is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a digital service from later in the month.
