UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror That Blends Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a young woman harboring several personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Inside her exist four separate souls, all possessing their own anxieties and drives. These souls can take over spontaneously, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes depict the protagonist exploring a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The central mechanic involves managing the persona that surfaces at a particular moment. However, these identities will switch involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and assault the protagonist one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous flowers where their necks are. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the body belongs to them," explains a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players believes a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, since each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fake. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on platforms.
